Jonathan Waters hits their target for Mencap charity fund raiser

Jonathan Waters, managing director and owner of Jonathan Waters EstateAgents in Ipswich, was delighted to announce this morning that the company had reached their target of raising £2,100 for Ipswich Mencap -  locally registered voluntary charity supporting people with learning disabilities.

As part of our 21st anniversary celebrations, Jonathan Waters Estate Agents donated £21.00 for each property we took onto the market.  We had targeted ourselves to reach £2,100 to link in with the 21st anniversary aspect.

“I am delighted for a number of reasons,” Mr Waters said.  “Firstly the fact that our target has been hit and secondly the fact that we achieved our goal much sooner than we expected.  I am also delighted for the charity because I know that every penny we raised will stay within Ipswich Mencap for the purpose of enhancing the lives of their members and the wider community.”

Barbara Thorn, a volunteer who works with Ipswich Mencap, was equally delighted with the news that Jonathan Waters had hit their target.  She explained in more detail how the money would be used.

“We have two properties that are used for the purpose of respite care, giving carers and parents a well earned break from their caring role.

“Over the last 52 years, we have provided many facilities with the money we  raised.  In February 2013 we launched our new project to provide an adapted vehicle to be used by the respite care team.  There is presently no vehicle available for this use, which naturally limits the amount of outings the guests have.  Relying on taxis and public transport can be extremely expensive and is well beyond our budget.

“We aim to raise enough money to buy an adapted vehicle, to train staff in the handling of wheel chair hoists and to keep the vehicle regularly serviced.  The total cost for the first year to get this on the road will be in the region of £38,000, which is a substantial amount of money to raise.

“I was delighted and surprised to receive a telephone call from Jonathan Waters Estate Agents in Ipswich just after our launch.  They are celebrating their 21st anniversary this year and very kindly chose Ipswich Mencap as their charity.  We are absolutely thrilled to think they chose us to support, and the timing couldn’t have been better.

“We are aware they have raised the fantastic sum of £2,100 which will be presented to the  society for the vehicle fund.  We can’t tell you how much it will mean to so many people, all of whom will benefit from having the vehicle in place.

“Early in the year this was a dream, but that dream - thanks to Jonathan Waters Estate - Agents will become reality much sooner than we had planned.

“We would all like to say a huge thank you to each and everyone for choosing Ipswich Mencap as the chosen charity and for doing such a fantastic job.”

Mr Waters added: “We will be presenting the cheque to Barbara and her team next week and look forward to hearing the exciting news about the arrival of the vehicle soon.

“I would like to thank the owners of all the properties who came onto the market with us, many of whom thought this was a very worthy local cause and wished Ipswich Mencap all the very best with their plans.

“This is the latest in a long line of local fund raising campaigns that we have carried out and earlier in the year, I was honoured to personally hand over a cheque for £1,000 to EACH, the local children’s hospice.  At Jonathan Waters EstateAgents in Ipswich we will be continuing to support local charities for a long while to come.”
